Holiday Boxes and Hacking Device Addiction

As a mother and entrepreneur - I am always trying to find ways to improve the quality of my life and my family's life.

With cell phones having multiple purposes from calendar to social media - it can be a challenge to limit screen time to the recommended less than two hours per day.

Recently, I was reminded by Abby Jones how important it is for adults to set limits AND how important it is that we are aware of other options to engage with life and each other.

Abby's TedxCherryCreek  talk on the subject can be found here.

At 12 years of age, Abby inspired me to make alternatives to screen time visible and accessible to my teens.

I grabbed a holiday box from a recent gift and together my teens and I generated a number of ideas on pieces of cards to put into the box.

In doing so, we made 'a game' out of the on-going conundrum:

"What else is there to do?"

Now we have the option to go to the 'Quality of Life Box' (working title) and pick a card to shift from screen time to me time and/or connection with others.

How has Abby inspired you AND what ideas does your family have to hack screen addition OR add to YOUR "Quality of Life Box"?

Share your ideas here AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
